Get ready for Halloween with these spooky gin cocktails! From eerie elixirs to ghostly cocktails, these haunting recipes will thrill your guests all night long!
Spooky Gin Cocktails.
Fun cocktails are fantastic to elevate your Halloween party with a wicked twist! As the spooky season creeps in, there’s no better way to set the mood than with some spine-chilling gin cocktails. These drinks are the perfect way to keep the haunting spirits high all night long.
Best Gin for Each Cocktail.
According to Food & Wine, not all gins are made equal. Overall, the most rounded dry gin is Beefeater’s. It can be used in almost any cocktail as it has a clean flavor, it is strong, includes beautiful citrus notes, and it is on the affordable side. I used it on most of the recipes listed below.
On that note, a beautiful gin that is also perfect for specific drinks is the Empress 1908 Indigo Gin. Its stunning purple color paired with its earthy, spicy flavors make it a great way to make your cocktails pop. Still, whatever gin you prefer is what you should use on these cocktails. Your kitchen, your rules!
What You Need to Make Spooky Gin Cocktails.
As far as equipment goes, this is a list of items that are helpful but not required by any means. If you do not have something, improvise and have fun!
- Mixology kit (e.g. cocktail shaker, muddler, strainer, mixing glass, long spoon)
- Cocktail glasses such as:
- Old fashioned glass
- Highball glass or Collins glass
- Martini or coupe glass
- Whatever you have in your kitchen!
- Fresh ice cubes or crushed ice
Pro Tip: Make Your Own Simple Syrup.
Simple syrup is easily accessible in stores. However, if you want to always have your favorite flavors at hand without the additives, making it at home is much simpler and inexpensive. All you need is:
- 1 cup white granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup of your preferred fruit, or 1-2 tbsp of your extract of choice.
- Small saucepan
To make it, simply bring the sugar and water (and fruit) to a small boil. Reduce it to low heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Remove it from the heat and if using extract instead of fruit, add it now. Allow it to cool to room temperature and move it to a glass jar. Refrigerate it until ready to use. Easy!
Tips to Make Spooky Cocktails.
Use special effects such as:
- Dry ice makes a great spooky effect.
- Coloring gel (neon makes it extra spooky!).
- Charcoal powder.
- Colored sugar rims.
- Add spiders, gummy eyeballs, spider webs or any props available to you.
- Make it into a themed cocktail by adding elements of your favorite scary movie.
- Give it your own spooky twist with fun garnishes for the perfect Halloween cocktail.
Sidenote: If using dry ice be sure to wear gloves, only use a small amount in each glass, and ensure the ice has completely dissolved (no smoke) before consuming. It will give you a beautifully chilled delicious drink. While this ingredient is perfect for the Halloween spirit, it must be used cautiously.
