Yoda Cookies.

May the 4th is approaching, which means iconic movie marathons and all the Star Wars things. These Grogu, or baby Yoda cookies, are super easy to make and perfect for family night. Even if you are not sci-fi fans, the kids love any excuse to bake and eat cookies together. Sure, you could buy Yoda cookies somewhere, but nothing beats making them at home and decorating them with your besties or family. You will be the MVP on scifi movie nights going forward, guaranteed!

What Do I Need to Make The Best Yoda Cookies?

To make the cookies, you only need a few pieces of equipment:

  • Cookie cutters –there is no set measurement
  • Rolling pin
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Wire rack for cooling

As far as the cutters are concerned, there is no set measurement or exact cutter sizes required. The typical sizes are usually between 2” and 3”. However, if yours are smaller or bigger by an extra inch or whatever, that works, too.

On a different note, I use angel shape cutters to create the Yoda shape, but there are also these cute Grogu cookie press-ons (these as well) with circle cutters. You can press the pattern onto any cutter shape, just be sure it matches cutter size!

Lastly, if you want to gift some cookies to fellow baby Yoda fans, this cookie gift box set is perfect for that! Or you can find some treat bags at a store nearby.

What Ingredients Do I Need For My Yoda Cookies?

The ingredients are simple:

  • Premade cookie dough –I like this sugar cookie dough recipe as it is delicious and requires no chilling or spreading. Still, you can use vanilla flavour, or any dough that allows for rolling and cutting prior to baking.
  • Royal icing –you can make your own or buy it premade for ease (I highly recommend this easy royal icing recipe if making it). You need black, light brown, and green icing. If you do not have brown food coloring at hand, add equal parts red and green to make brown.
  • About ½ cup of plain flour to flour surface before rolling dough, and to dip your cutters in.

How Do I Make Yoda Cookies?

Preheat the oven to the required temperature for your dough to bake. Then, lightly flour your work surface and begin to roll out the dough until it is ¼” inch thick.

Ingredients for Best Yoda Cookies: plain flour, butter, vanilla essence, egg, baking powder.Cookie dough, plain flour and rolling pin for Yoda cookies.

Dip your cookie cutters in flour and begin cutting the dough. If using an angel shaped cutter like me, simply make a curved slice right under the angel head to create the shape of Yoda’s head. (See pictures). Move the headless angels to the prepared baking sheet and bake.

Once baked, pick-up cookies and move them to a wire rack. Allow them to cool completely before decorating.

After the cookies cool down, begin outlining and decorating Yoda’s head with the green. Then, use the brown for his robe underneath. Lastly, use a round tip or a piping bag to make two small circles on Yoda’s face for his eyes. Be sure to allow the green to dry before adding the eyes. As Yoda would say, patience you must have, my young padawan. 😉 Feel free to add any other colors, glitter or details to your cookies. Have fun!

Notes

I use this sugar cookie recipe for the dough as it is delicious and requires no chilling or spreading. Still, feel free to use whatever your favorite recipe is! If you have any leftover dough, you can place it in plastic wrap and refrigerate it for up to a couple of days.
You can make your own royal icing or buy it premade for ease. I like this easy royal icing recipe. It is easy and does not require pure icing sugar, eggs or meringue.
If you do not have brown icing, simply add equal parts red and green food coloring to the icing to make a beautiful brown.
